A Symbol of the Gangas

Elephant was the symbol of the ‘Gangas’. Western Gangas with capital Talkad which is modern Karnataka (Mysore). 
Earlier Ganga was a feudatory of a strong Empire Rashtrakutas but with the decline of Rashtrakutas, Ganga Dynasty declared themselves an independent Kingdom and King Konganivarman Madhava is considered as the founder of it. Despite a small empire they had a strong hold in Deccan region.

A Piece of History

This coin was likely introduced around 1080 AD when the Ganga Dynasty emerged from Chola domination. The intricate details on the pendant showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of the era.
