Compton 1896: “Compton” by William Morris. This painting is believed as one of the last few designs created by Morris. The bloomed flowers add a charm to the necklace and make it a versatile accessory, perfect for every type of occasion.

One can see tulips and poppies woven into a rich, flowing pattern. This was always a definitive style of Morris which was later made best known for the wallpapers. The scale of the flowers indicates that the paper was intended for a large, ceremonial room.

This design was created and then produced in 1896 as a wallpaper for private houses. It was first mounted in now a City of England called Wolverhampton. It’s in Central England. Now the 19th-century Wolverhampton Art Gallery has collection of William Morris interiors and landscaping.
