Chhatrapati, a royal title from India most famously associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Chhatra means Umbrella & pati means Lord, Together means Chhatrapati, "Sovereign Ruler", symbolizing a protector king who provides shelter and safety to his people — much like an umbrella shields from the sun or rain.

The title was first adopted by Shivaji Maharaj in 1674 during his coronation as the king of the Marathas at Raigad Fort.
